1966 – Inglewood CA

On January 23, 1966, Jim was arrested for assault and battery charges.  As the story goes, Jim, Felix Venable, and Phil O’Leno all head out to the desert to find some Indians and eat peyote.  On the way, Jim jumps out of the car and kisses a girl and hops back in the car.  At some point, Jim and Phil get into an argument and Phil leaves.  When Jim and Felix get back, Jim makes up this story that he killed Phil and buried him in a riverbed.  Unfortunately for Jim, the story gets back to Phil’s father, who is an attorney finds the girl Jim kissed and has her file charges against Jim, in order to really find out what happened to his son, Phil.  Jim is arrested and bailed out and Phil’s father finds out the truth, that Phil had simply went on to Arizona after his fight with Jim.
